Tracid 500mg Tablet prevents bleeding by blocking the plasminogen from binding with fibrin which results in bleeding. As a result, it prevents and controls bleeding associated with various conditions.

Indication of Tracid 500mg Tablet

Tranexamic Acid is used to treat and prevent bleeding in conditions such as,  

• Heavy menstrual bleeding in women
• Bleeding from the nose
• Internal bleeding (gastrointestinal system, for example, inflammatory bowel disease))
• Urine with blood (not produced by the kidney (renal parenchyma))
• Bleeding following surgery (for example, tooth extraction in patients with coagulopathies or cervix surgery)

Pharmacology

Tranexamic acid is primarily metabolized in the liver and excreted in the urine. The elimination half-life is about 2 hours, but it may be prolonged in patients with impaired renal function. The dose of tranexamic acid should be reduced in patients with renal impairment. Tranexamic acid should also be used with caution in patients with a history of thromboembolic events, as it may increase the risk of such events. Additionally, it should not be used in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to tranexamic acid or any of its components. Tranexamic acid is available in various forms, including tablets, injections, and topical preparations, and it should only be used under the supervision of a healthcare professional.

Dosage & Administrations of Tracid 500mg Tablet

• It is important to note that dosing for tranexamic acid in individuals with renal impairment should be adjusted based on their serum creatinine concentration.
• For those with a serum creatinine concentration of 120-250 micromol/l, the recommended dose is 15 mg/kg twice daily.
• For those with a serum creatinine concentration of 250-500 micromol/l, the recommended dose is 15 mg/kg once daily.
• For individuals with a serum creatinine concentration greater than 500 micromol/l, the recommended dose is 7.5 mg/kg once daily or 15 mg/kg once every 48 hours.
• The drug has had limited use in pediatric patients, principally in connection with tooth extraction.
• The limited data suggest that dosing instructions for adults can be used for pediatric patients needing Tranexamic acid therapy.
• It is important to consult with a healthcare provider for appropriate dosing recommendations in individuals with renal impairment.

Interaction

Contraindications

Active thromboembolic diseases, such as deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism and cerebral thrombosis, Subarachnoid hemorrhage, Hypersensitivity to Tranexamic acid or any of the ingredients.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Tranexamic acid crosses the placenta. Clinical experience of use in pregnant women is limited. Animal studies have not supplied any evidence of an increased incidence of fetal damage. Tranexamic acid is excreted into breast milk, but it is not likely to influence the child at therapeutic doses.

Precautions & Warnings

• Patients with irregular menstrual bleeding and patients with a high risk of thrombosis (a previous thromboembolic event and a family history of thromboembolic disease) should use it only if there is a strong medical indication and under strict medical supervision.
• Patients with disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), who require treatment with it must be under the strict supervision of a physician experienced in treating this disorder.
• In the long-term treatment of patients, regular eye examinations should be performed. If a color vision disorder should occur during the course of treatment, the drug should be discontinued.
• Tranexamic acid injection should not be mixed with blood for transfusion or infusion solutions containing penicillin.
